One million volt stun gun crook locked up

GADGET WAS DISGUISED AS MOBILE PHONE SHOCKER

THE effects of shock by electricity depend on voltage, current and body resistance. Stun guns affect the central nervous system, leaving victims unable to escape as they lose control of their muscles. The shock depends not just on voltage but on the number of amps, or level of current. BY DAVID MEIKLE reporters@dailyrecord.co.uk A DRUG dealer caught with a stun gun capable of discharging more than one million volts has been jailed for five years.

Scott Ritchie, 25, was nabbed with the device after police acting on a tip-off raided his home.

Officers launched a search of the property in Larkhall, Lanarkshire, and discovered 50 grams of cocaine and other drug paraphernalia worth £1930.

But police also found the Kelin K95 stun gun – a device disguised to resemble a mobile phone.

It is made in China and, according to the company website, has the ability to fire out 1.2million volts. Police issue tasers are only capable of discharging 50,000 volts.

Ritchie, of Larkhall, appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court and admitted supplying cocaine as well as possessing the illegal stun gun in April last year.

Depute fiscal Imran Bashir told the court: “Officers recovered a variety of items including controlled drugs and related paraphernalia.

“Due to the items that were seized, it was decided that the accused’s mobile phones would also be seized.

“While collecting them from the bedside, officers found what looked to be a stun gun disguised as a mobile phone.

“That was sent for forensic examination and was found to be a stun gun described as Chinese, a Kelin K95 electronic stun gun and it was in working order.”

The slightest touch against a target is enough to deliver the charge, either directly on to skin or through clothing and in extreme cases they may cause fatal heart attacks.

Ritchie received a five-year jail term for possessing the stun gun which will run alongside a 20-month sentence for the drug dealing charge.
