Caulker has boosted us all in battle for survival

-

BY ALAN MARSHALL LEWIS SPENCE reckons the influence of in-demand Steven Caulker is helping the entire Dundee squad in their bid to beat the drop.

The England defender has been a rock at the heart of the Dens defence.

And Spence insists Caulker, who has played for Liverpool and Spurs, has aided his own development as he continues to impress in a first top-flight term.

Spence said: “To play with someone of that calibre is terrific. It give us all a boost that he wants to come and play here.

“I just want to learn from him because he has played at the highest level. He’s a good character in the dressing room and a top player, as everyone can see.

“He’s trying to get his career back on track and our defenders will be learning a lot from him as well. It’s great to have him at this club.

“The other experienced guys have really helped me as well. Darren O’Dea, who has had an unbelievable career, and Paul McGowan have brought me on a lot.

“In general the squad and management team have done everything to help me fit in and make me feel like part of the team.

“We shouldn’t be down there with the squad we have – but we are.

“It’s going to be a dogfight and we need to be up for that against teams like Partick, Hamilton, Ross County. It’s not going to be pretty but we are ready.” BY
