Packie says eight-goal Moussa needs to be looking at 30 if he wants to be compared to greats

what some of the current players must think about.

“You recall goalscorers like Chalmers, Dalglish, Charlie, Frank and Larsson and the men who created the chances such as Jimmy Johnstone, Tommy Burns and Paul McStay.

“Danny McGrain was a creative right-back, just as Kieran Tierney is on the opposite flank nowadays. They’re the ones supporters remember, not the holding midfielders or the centre-halves or goalkeepers.

“To play as a striker for Celtic you have to be good all the time and that’s what Dembele and Griffiths should be thinking about, ‘How am I going to be remembered as a proper striker for this fantastic club?’

“They need to be consistently effective. Dembele in particular is a young man with brilliant attributes. For me though he has to do it more often.

“I’ve no doubt he’ll go out on Sunday and he’ll show his quality again but I want to see him doing that on a regular basis.”

Celtic recently went on a scoring run of 71 games straight, including their Invincibles season, but have failed to find the net in five of their last 12 matches.

Bonner expects the Cup clash to be closer than many of the recent mismatches between the big two but he’s still backing Celtic to keep on course for another domestic grand slam even if their form has recently shaded.

He added: “It gets harder for Rangers the longer this goes on. Before the last game at Ibrox they had their expectations and that it would be the one to end this run.

“However, if Celtic play well on the day they are the better team and they have a better squad.

“The question is though will they play on the day? They’ve not been performing well recently but Celtic will still go into this one as favourites.

“When it comes down to it, Celtic will win it. I wouldn’t say any differently.

“They’ve only lost two games so it would be a brave man who’d say they are going to lose their next game, especially with the Treble at stake.”

Veteran Craig Gordon is expected to make his return between the sticks after being rested and replaced by Scott Bain for the visit to the plastic pitch at Hamilton last weekend.

Bonner added: “Craig should start in goal, no question.

“He’s got experience, produces big saves when it matters and is good enough on the ball. For me he should go straight into the team.”

Pat Bonner was speaking at a William Hill media event. William Hill is the proud sponsor of the Scottish Cup.
