Don’t Giffnoc kit till you’ ve tried it, folks

Bono and Bob Geld of should organise a benefit gig ..

-

IT ALL kicked off on Facebook when the keyboard warriors of Giffnock heard they were getting a Lidl. Dip Sekhon wanted to petition MSPs to stop the German supermarket opening in the area. And Stephanie Kennedy and Carol Mcintosh were disappointed that M&S did not take on the vacant site.

Although Carol conceded: “I am pleased that the space will be occupied more than anything.”

Aqeel Ahmed would have preferred a trampoline park or cinema – but is resigned to a German discount supermarket.

He posted: “Bring on the cheap multivitamin juice from Slovakia. And the random 90-piece socket set you didn’t know you always wanted. Next to fleece pyjamas, a BBQ grill, some camping equipment and frozen pizzas.”

Others also reckoned that Lidl would soon win over G46’s M&S faction.

Craig MacDonald wrote: “All these posh snobs will be queuing up when Lidl bring out a discount on prosecco.”

Paul Bain added: “Just wait til they go in for the first time for bread and milk and come out with a five-man tent and a tyre compressor. They’ll soon change their minds. M&S who?”

But there were calls for Bono and Bob Geldof to set up a benefit concert. Del Middleton hoped for a political response and wrote: “Oh my god, how are you guys going to cope when rabid hordes of troglodyte peasantry invade the area?

“I hope the First Minister has called an emergency summit in response to this issue.”
