Entertainment world should embrace Cannes do attitude

-

CATE Blanchett has called for gender equality at the Cannes Film Festival but accepts it won’t happen overnight.

Things are a wee bit better than they were. Years ago, Dustin Hoffman famously played a female actress in Tootsie. He was so convincing, producers immediately halved his wages.

Mike Myers has hinted that he might not be done with his Austin Powers movies yet.

Though thanks to the MeToo movement, the next one will legally have to be called Austin Powers 4: The Spy Who Respected My Personal Space As A Woman Of Equal Worth.

On a similar theme, Stormy Daniels has made a surprise appearance on US TV show Saturday Night Live as her legal wrangle with President Trump continues.

Seems about right. I suppose having been with Trump qualifies her for working with well-paid comedians.

Elsewhere in TV land, Jeremy Clarkson is dividing opinion on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire.

Some are calling him rude and insulting. You can’t blame, Jeremy. The bold yin finds it hard to give money to anyone, unless it’s in assault damages.

And it’s been announced that Dermot O’Leary and Scarlett Moffat will be among the presenters for the BBC’s royal wedding coverage.

Wee tip to remember, Dermot. When the choir finish singing the wedding music, try not to open the phone lines and ask Louis Walsh what he thought of them. ●Sir Elton John has hit out at reality stars who are made famous by shows such as Love Island.

Elton couldn’t recall any by name. Though in fairness, neither can anybody else.
