My mate can be the Bain man
BY CRAIG SWAN JACK HENDRY is backing buddy Scott Bain to be a Hampden hero.
The Celtic back-up keeper is on stand-by for a shock appearance in the Scottish Cup Final with top pick Craig Gordon fighting to overcome a knee injury.
Bain has started the last three games with Gordon on the sidelines.
And, having signed a permanent four-year contract just five days ago, he could extend his fairytale into an outing in the end-of-season showpiece against Motherwell on Saturday.
If Gordon doesn’t make it, Hendry is adamant the Hoops’ history-making attempt remains in safe hands.
He was Bain’s team-mate at Dundee before the pair moved to Parkhead on the same night in January.
And the defender said: “I was at Dundee with Scott so I know his capabilities.
“I have full confidence if I am playing alongside him. I am sure if he is called upon he will do a good job.”
Hendry can’t wait for the Final – despite the fact he won’t be getting stripped at Hampden.
The centre-back is cup-tied having played for the Dark Blues against Inverness just prior to his transfer but that won’t stop him savouring the whole experience.
He said: “I am cup-tied and it is frustrating but it is about the team and hopefully they do the job.”
