Star thrills fans at charity show

SINGER and actor Jason Donovan spent his 50th birthday weekend belting out hits in a kilt in Scotland. The former Neighbours heartthrob flew from London to perform at a charity bash in Glasgow. The Any Dream Will Do hitmaker turned 50 on Friday and got the party going when he sang at the Tartan and Tiaras Ball at the city’s Doubletree Hilton on Saturday. Jason was on the star-studded guest list for his former Neighbours co-star Kylie’s 50th bash in London last weekend and was happy to have a change of scenery after his own milestone birthday. He was given a full kilt outfit to wear for the occasion – complete with sporran and skean dhu – by Heart radio DJ Paul Harper. And the presenter had to help Jason put it on. Paul said: “Jason said he loved celebrating his 50th birthday weekend with Scottish fans. “I gave him a kilt to wear and told him I’d help him get dressed. I guess it’s every girl’s dream to dress Jason Donovan and I had the pleasure of doing exactly that.

“He asked me if he should wear underwear with it and I told him he always should if the kilt is hired – which it was.”

Fans screamed at the show as Jason asked: “Does anyone want to see what I have under my kilt?”

He sang a clutch of hits including Especially For You – but it wasn’t Kylie duetting with him, it was backing singer Kelly.

The event, now in its 10th year, raised money for Calum’s Cabin, Home-Start Renfrewshire and Inverclyde and DEBRA.

Jason will be back in Scotland in September on his Amazing Midlife Crisis tour.
