Portrait of tragic kid painted on back of lorry

-

BY STEPHEN STEWART s.stewart@dailyrecord.co.uk A GRIEVING mum has unveiled a unique tribute to her beloved daughter – on the back of a lorry.

Milly Main passed away last August, aged 10, after a fiveyear battle with leukaemia.

But her portrait has now been painted on a Scania truck after a haulage firm heard about the tragic death.

It is hoped the lorry artwork can help raise awareness of childhood cancer and earn cash for the Schiehallion Unit at Glasgow’s Royal Hospital for Children, where Milly was treated.

Milly’s mum Kimberly Horne, 34, of Lanark, said: “Milly was brave and courageous. She was special. She experienced agonising pain which rippled though every bone in her body, tiredness beyond compare, needles, drugs and tubes.

“But she smiled, laughed and made everyone around her happy. She gave them the ability to be strong, just like her.

“Once the news broke of her death, a haulage company contacted us and arranged to get a brand-new truck for their fleet with Milly’s picture on the back. It was very emotional when we saw Milly’s portrait on the lorry. We were overwhelmed.

“It’s a wonderful tribute to her memory. Hopefully people will see it and realise they never know when childhood cancer will affect them or their family.

“We hope the lorry can be used to raise cash for the unit. Our main goal is to raise as much as we can in Milly’s memory.”

Jim Prentice, director of JHP Transport, of Lanark, said: “We heard about Milly’s passing and wanted to do something.

“Hopefully, people will see the lorry and her portrait and it will make them think. It’ll also let the family know people are thinking of them and Milly.”
