WAIT WORTH IT FOR BEITH

-

BEITH hero Joe Bradley admits the wait to be crowned champions was the longest four minutes of his life on a thrilling final day in the Super Premier League.

The Bellsdale Park side went into the match needing a win and hoping Auchinleck would drop something away to bitter rivals Cumnock.

Beith did their bit by thumping Girvan thanks to Bradley’s double and further goals by Andy Reid, Darren Christie and subs Jamie Cunningham and Ross McPherson.

But with their game finishing a little earlier, there was an anxious wait to see if Talbot could sneak a late winner after blowing a two-goal lead.

Bradley said: “I feel as if I’m dreaming and that it hasn’t happened.

“With our game finishing four minutes before theirs the wait on the pitch was horrendous. It felt like a lifetime but when news filtered through it was over it was unreal, an amazing feeling.

“We knew during the BEITH ................ 6 GIRVAN ............. 0 SCOTT McHARG game Talbot were two ahead and it’s fair to say we thought it was gone.

“It was strange and the ground was eerie.

“Then we heard they’d pulled one back and when they conceded another it was the best feeling ever.

“We have a semi-final against Kilwinning on Monday and a semi-final in the West against Nock on Wednesday so there is still plenty to play for.”

The first goal arrived in 17 minutes when Thomas Collins squared for Reid to tap home.

Bradley then scored a quickfire double and Christie made it four after a mazy run.

Cunningham got in on the act and Beith fans got a lift hearing Nock had scored. McPherson then made it six before news of an equaliser at Townhead Park sent the place wild.

Girvan gaffer Stevie McCreadie said: “Congrats to Beith, they are worthy winners of the title.”
