I DON’T KNOW WHAT I’LL DO

- BY NEIL McLEMAN

NOVAK DJOKOVIC is uncertain if he’ll play at Wimbledon – after crashing out of the French Open in yesterday’s quarter-finals.

The 12-time Grand Slam winner was shocked 6-3 7-6 1-6 7-6 by world No.72 Marco Cecchinato.

Despite a point penalty for going to the locker room to change his shoes, the Italian claimed his fourth match point in an epic final tiebreak.

Afterwards Djokovic, who struggled with injury for much of the last year, fielded questions about when he’d make his first grass-court appearance.

He said: “I don’t know. I don’t know if I’m going to play on grass. I don’t know what I’m going to do.

“I just came from the court. Sorry, guys, I can’t give you that answer. How do I regroup? I don’t know. I’m just not thinking about tennis at the moment.”

After becoming the first Italian man to reach a Grand Slam last four for 40 years, tearful Cecchinato said: “It is amazing. There have been many sacrifices but it is now a wonderful moment. It is tough to explain the emotion.”

Djokovic had treatment on his neck and leg during the match and added: “I struggled from the beginning with a little injury.”

No.2 seed Alex Zverev paid the price for playing three straight five setters as he needed his left thigh strapped during his straights-sets defeat by Dominic Thiem, who will now face Cecchinato.

Meanwhile Serena Williams reported an initial medical assessment as “super exciting” after pulling out at Roland Garros with a pectoral muscle injury.
