Boss of ‘healthy junk food’ cafe denies withholding staff’s money
STAFF working at a so-called “healthy junk food” shop claim they haven’t been paid thousands of pounds owed to them in wages.
Nuff opened their doors in Glasgow at the start of June in a blaze of publicity around their healthy proteinpacked doughnuts, cookies and brownies.
Two of Nuff ’s current and former staff hit out at boss Kevin McLoughlin, 29, citing several problems.
They claim suppliers failed to deliver the “healthy” products and the shop on Argyle Street had no coffee machine or freezer to keep ice cream for milkshakes.
They said the last straw came when their wages were not paid.
Katie McLachlan, 20, said: “When the stock stopped being delivered, Kevin sent us a recipe for cookie dough and told us to make the stuff ourselves.
“There are supposed to be less calories in the products we were selling but we used a phone app to work out they aren’t healthier at all.”
Katie’s former colleague Josh Philliban, 20, claimed he quit when he couldn’t pay the rent on his flat.
He said: “I still haven’t received a penny of the money I’m due.”
The workers now plan to go to court to recoup what they say is owed.
Nuff ’s website says they operate an online delivery service in London and boast of “junk food made good” and “awesome doughnuts, cookies and brownies that are healthy”. McLoughlin, from Prestwick and based in London, is listed as Nuff ’s sole director. He insisted staff were paid what they were due. Dismissing their claims about the calorific values of Nuff products, he added: “We will be having all our products lab-tested in the next while, so we can have an actual proper nutrient breakdown like you have in supermarkets.” He conceded the new business had encountered problems but insisted they were being sorted.
