Visit will open old wounds
BY JAMES MONCUR DONALD Trump made many enemies in Aberdeenshire 10 years ago – and they are sickened at the thought of him setting foot in Scotland again.
Locals have clashed with the president since he first announced plans to build his golf course on the Menie Estate.
Since then, they have been the victims of “bullying tactics” to make way for further development at the site.
This week, it was revealed the course has “partially destroyed” the specially protected site it was built on.
David Milne, who refused to leave his house on the estate while the course was built around it, said: “It’ll be made quite clear that Trump is not welcome in this country.
“I think many, many people have come to the same conclusion that I reached many years ago.
“He used this development scandal as a practice run for the presidency – it was scandal, failure and lies all the way through.”
Martin Ford, an Aberdeenshire councillor who in 2007 was ousted from his role as chairman of the infrastructure services committee after opposing Trump’s plans, said: “Mr Trump has been a disaster for us.
“The association the north-east of Scotland has with him is an embarrassment at best.
“His spell as president is like his golf course – a vanity project.”
