I’M NOT GOING RENNIEWHERE
New deal in pipeline for Warriors supremo Dave
DAVE RENNIE has set his sights on playing the long game with Glasgow.
The New Zealander is half way through his two-year deal with the Warriors.
But yesterday he made it clear to SRU chiefs that he is determined to stay in the Scotstoun hot-seat.
Rennie, who was helping launch the Pro14 competition in his adopted home city, revealed new contract talks have begun.
And he said: “I am loving it here – my wife is happy and that is a key factor. I’m keen to stay on.”
Rennie’s troops finished top of their league section last season, only to be ousted in the semi-finals.
But he’s convinced they’ll be better equipped to challenge for the title this time round – despite failing to snap up any new star names during the summer. Rennie said: “We brought in 16 new guys a year ago. A number of them are on two or three-year deals and there are a lot of Scottish guys we are keen to keep so we can manage them.
“I believe we’ll be a lot better than we were last year as we’re further down the track. We’ve added a lot of detail to our pre-season and the coaching group have done a great job.
“We will have a better side than last year, we are happy with the squad and the depth.”
Rennie also backed scrumhalf Ali Price to come back with pace and power – a week after claiming he had become fat and sluggish on Scotland bench duty last season.
The Warriors boss added: “It’s not uncommon for players who aren’t getting the same kind of game time.
“Ali had a groin injury but has worked really hard. He’s desperate to get back and play.
“I’ve been really impressed with him. He might be a couple of weeks away but when he comes back he’ll be in good nick and really sharp.”
Warriors kick off their Pro14 glory quest against Connacht a week on Saturday in Galway.
