On-song Muir eyes another hit record
LAURA MUIR has hinted she may have a crack at her British 1500 metres record in tonight’s second Diamond League Final in Brussels.
The European champ came second two years ago but the A-List cast at the Van Damme meeting could see her break the 3:55.22 she clocked in Paris in 2016.
She said: “I just want a fast time. It’s effectively this year’s world final.
“If I can go there and be competitive, that would be fantastic.”
Jake Wightman believes he can make one last push to snatch Tom McKean’s long-standing Scottish record in a stacked 800m.
The European bronze medallist fancies his chances of getting within reach of the 1:43.88 mark set by McKean in 1989.
He said: “I need to make sure I’m in position so I can use my speed.” CRICKET: Sam Curran vindicated his Test recall as he came to England’s rescue with a career-best 78 against India at the Ageas Bowl.
No.8 Curran formed a comeback combination with Moeen Ali to bail England out from a poor 86 for six on the way to 246 all out after Joe Root chose to bat in the fourth Test.
Curran and Moeen, who battled to 40, put on a seventh-wicket stand of 81 on the opening day that ended with India’s reply on 19 without loss.
Curran said: “There are positives and negatives.” CYCLING: France’s Nacer Bouhanni won stage six of the Vuelta a Espana in a reduced bunch in San Javier as Rudy Molard retained the race leader’s red jersey.
Bouhanni sprinted to victory at the end of the 155km stage from HuercalOvera ahead of Holland’s Danny van Poppel and Italy’s Elia Viviani.
