Stunning return has driven Tiger out the Woods
TIGER WOODS has claimed 2018 has been one of the best years of his career – and insists his future is looking even better.
The 14-time Major champion, whose injury problems mean he last tasted victory in 2013, has staged a remarkable comeback from a series of back operations.
That has led to two runners-up finishes, including at this month’s USPGA, but the 42-year-old is looking at the wider picture.
Woods, at the Dell Technologies Championship this week, he said: “This has been one of my best years considering I didn’t know what I was going to do, I just didn’t have a clue.
“The fact I have been able to make it this far is very exciting for me, I have a bright future ahead of me because this time last year I didn’t know.”
Woods currently sits 25th in the FedEx Cup standings, with the top 70 making it to next week’s BMW Championship and the top 30 qualifying for the season-ending Tour Championship.
Jonathan Thomson shot an eight-under 64 – the lowest round of his European Tour career – to take a two-stroke lead on day one at the Made in Denmark event.
Russell Knox will pick the highest-ranked Scot as his partner at the World Cup of Golf.
Martin Laird or Scott Jamieson are vying for a spot at the November 24 event in Melbourne.
Knox said: “I’d pick Martin as the highest-ranked player but if Scott passes him I’d pick Scott.”
