Scottish Government staff make seven allegations

-

BY ANDY PHILIP a.philip@dailyrecord.co.uk SEVEN claims of staff bullying or harassment are being investigated by the Scottish Government.

The cases came to light in the wake of allegations against former first minister Alex Salmond.

Among the thousands of people who work for the Scottish Government, there were four cases in 2013 and 2014, nine in 2015, 10 in 2016, and seven in both 2017 and 2018.

There were “seven live internal harassment and/or bullying cases” as of July this year.

Officials did not say if there was any element of alleged sexual misconduct in any of the seven claims.

The details emerged in answers to freedom of information requests.

A parliamentary question by Labour MSP Monica Lennon also asked about sexual harassment complaints relating to ministers, special advisers and staff.

The Government said there are no recorded complaints about ministers beyond the two allegations against Alex Salmond, as revealed by the Record last month.

The Government added: “Since 2007, a total of 11 formal complaints of this nature have been received by the Scottish Government.”

They were “dealt with” according to internal procedures.

In January, two female members of staff made sexual misconduct claims against Salmond, which he strenuously denies.

The claims relate to 2013, when he was first minister.

Salmond is taking the Scottish Government to court over how they dealt with the allegations.

He launched a crowdfunding campaign to pay for his Court of Session legal challenge. The £50,000 target was reached within hours
