Young midfielder Martin’s driven to succeed with Accies

-

SCOTT MARTIN insists his career can motor on with Hamilton now he doesn’t have to spend three hours a day in the car travelling to training with Hibs.

The midfielder reckons he was picking up injury niggles from being cramped in his car for hours in rush-hour traffic trying to get to the Tranent training base.

But since signing for Accies on transfer deadline day the BY EUAN McLEAN 21-year-old is thriving on his mum Angie’s home cooking and feels fighting fit thanks to the mere 10-minute daily journey to training from the family home in Cambuslang.

Martin, a likely starter today when Accies entertain St Mirren, said: “It’s a great move for a lot of reasons. With it being 10 minutes from my house instead of an hour and a half to get to Edinburgh it suited me to a tee.

“It is a benefit when you’re not spending the best part of three hours a day driving to training and back.

“For a spell I had a flat in Edinburgh but I was maybe a bit young at the time. I was going out for Indian takeaways because I couldn’t cook properly for myself, so I was eating the wrong stuff.

“When I moved back home I definitely felt the difference from the daily drive.

“You feel everything stiffening up and you tend to pick up wee niggles and don’t know how to get over them. To be spending 10 minutes a day in the car now is brilliant.

“We’ll aim to pick up points after a disappointing loss against Livingston but St Mirren will be a hard game. They’ve been lifted by a new boss and will be tough rivals.”
