WOTHERSPOON’S CAN-DO ATTITUDE

-

DAVID WOTHERSPOON is committed to Canada but the St Johnstone midfielder’s immediate priority is reclaiming a starting jersey for his club. The former Hibs playmaker clocked up the air miles in Canada’s record 8-0 CONCAF Nations League romp against the 199th-ranked US Virgin Islands in Florida. And he’s eager to make national boss John Herdman’s squad for next month’s BY GORDON BANNERMAN

qualifier with Dominica. But competition is tough for spots in Tommy Wright’s midfield.

After a late run from the bench in the 1-1 weekend draw with Aberdeen, Wotherspoon could be among the subs again for tomorrow’s Rangers clash.

Wotherspoon, who teamed up with Gers skipper Scott Arfield on international duty, said: “I’ll have to get back to playing regularly here to stay in the Canada squad. I’ve just got to keep my mind focused and be ready for my opportunity.

“We’ve got a great squad now. Everyone is itching to play and that’s the competition for places a manager wants.”

And Wotherspoon insisted the Perth side are confident heading for Ibrox.

He added: “We’ve got players in our dressing room who can give them problems.” Yellow Submarines 5-0, Hartson would still ridicule them. The guy still holds a grudge because Rangers decided against signing him.”

On to Celtic and said: “Hopefully Griffiths gets a start on Sunday and shakes off the lethargy in the team.

“Brendan Rodgers doesn’t need to justify his £9m signing when big Odsonne Edouard has just gone off the boil a bit.”

said: “What a great night for Scottish football. Both teams rode their luck but who cares?

“Both managers will be happy and maybe Rodgers will start with Griffiths now. He has to play him.”

said: “Griffiths is worth his weight in gold for Celtic. What else can he do to justify being in the Celtic starting XI?

“If Rodgers has a problem with Griffiths he had better come out and let the Hoops support know what it is. The Celtic fans adore Griffiths and he has to get a regular run-out now.”

said: “I hope Edouard was watching Griffiths. His movement for the goal was sensational. The header was textbook and his attitude is superb. That was a forward’s instinct to go in there and sniff out a goal.

“I know which striker looked like a £9m player and it wasn’t Edouard. Rodgers has to play Griffiths now as Celtic fans are crying out for him to start every match.”

Finally, emailed: “Rodgers has to stop this style of play. All Celtic do is pass the ball back with the odd crossfield switch of play. This robotic football is bringing tears to my eyes. It’s like watching repeats on TV.” CALL THE HOTLINE TOMORROW FROM 11 TILL 12 NOON on: 0141 309 3306 or email us: hotline@dailyrecord.co.uk
