RUGBY PRO14 LATEST Henry: Switch can do me world of good

GLASGOW star Huw Jones insists he is finally shaking off the effects of his confidence crisis.

The Scotland centre struggled to adapt to life with the Warriors after his switch from South Africa.

But Jones reckons his try-scoring display against Dragons last weekend was a watershed.

And he is determined to turn on the style again in tomorrow’s Pro14 home clash with Zebre and the looming Heineken Champions Cup campaign.

Jones said: “The Dragons match was my best performance so far BY DAVID KELSO for the Warriors – then again I haven’t played very much.

“My first few months with the club were very difficult last winter, having come in straight from a full season in South Africa.

“I never really felt confident in a Glasgow jersey, so last week it was nice to settle the nerves. Last season was frustrating and stop-start.

“My debut was against Montpellier at Scotstoun and we didn’t perform that well in the game.

“We were hitting a bad run of form - and I was not HENRY PYRGOS reckons his inter-city move to Edinburgh can earn him a seat on Scotland’s World Cup plane to Japan.

Pyrgos ended last season as Glasgow’s third-choice scrum-half but has quickly established himself as the Gunners’ main man in the No.9 berth.

He said: “It was a quick transition but it has been an easy environment to settle in to.

“The big reason I opted to switch to Murrayfield was next year’s World Cup. I wasn’t playing my best rugby. Then I joined up with the Scotland squad for the Six Nations and when I came back I got an injury which ruled me out for the rest of the Pro14 campaign for Glasgow.

“I have had to work my way back from wrist surgery. I think moving to the Warriors without taking a break wasn’t great.

“It was a hard step trying to gel immediately with a new set-up.

“But now I’m feeling good and the wrist is fine.

“The pressure has been on me because there was a weight of expectation from coaches, fans and myself.” The Warriors sit top of their Pro14 section, having won four of their first five games, and Jones is enjoying linking up with rising star Adam Hastings in midfield. He said: “Adam has been brilliant since Finn Russell left the club. “The boy has stepped in to that No.10 channel and has really bossed it. “I love playing alongside him.” appearing as much as I would have liked for the Warriors and although I enjoyed my time there, it was a decision I had to make.

“The set-up at Edinburgh isn’t much different to Glasgow, which made it straightforward to quickly get into the swing of things.

“It’s a really hard-working group of players and coaches here so it’s easy just to get on with that.”
