Campaign to access medicine

BREAST Cancer Now have led the campaign to have Perjeta made available to all women who need it in Scotland.

Today, the charity call once more on drug company Roche, the Scottish Government and the Scottish Medicines Consortium to do what they can to make it available now.

Metastatic breast cancer is one which has spread to another part of the body, most commonly the liver, brain, bones, or lungs.

Fiona Hazell, director of Breast Cancer Now, said it was unacceptable that Scottish women could not routinely access Perjeta.

She added: “Please sign the petition today and support hundreds of women and families who desperately need this drug.”

Scottish Labour’s health spokeswoman, Monica Lennon, said it was an “unacceptable” situation that drug companies like Roche could “effectively hold health boards to ransom”.

The Scottish Government said changes they had introduced and significant investment had resulted in greater access to new medicines and added: “And we want to see that continue.”
