YESTERDAY, we told how a boxing gym sparked outrage among parents after offering kids the chance to fight out their differences in their ring.
David Orr, who runs the Warriors Gym in Whitburn, West Lothian, posted on Facebook, claiming police had dealt with incidents at schools, offering an alternative where pupils can “square go” while wearing protective gear.
The story caused a bit of a debate on the Record Facebook page.
Clare Connor hit out at the parents who were against the scheme. She argued: “This gym is offering these kids a safe way to channel their anger without other kids jumping in or it going too far and ending up all over social media.”
Micha Notlar, a mother of two, agreedm adding: “It’s a controlled environment … no weapons and protective gear is on.”
And Jean Cavanagh added: “I would rather have my kids fight it out in a boxing ring than them being bullied in the street and getting stabbed or worse.”
