EU bid to ban clock changes

-

THE EU want to ban British Summer Time – and there may be nothing the UK can do to stop it.

The European Commission have proposed a law that will ban EU member states from observing daylight saving time, putting a stop to changing the clocks.

It leaves the UK in a race against time to block the ban before March 29, when Britain will leave the EU but remain bound by its rules for at least two years during the transition.

Lord Whitty, chairman of the Lords’ EU internal market sub-committee, said the proposal goes beyond the European Commission’s remit.

Britain has eight weeks to submit a “reasoned opinion” opposing the directive.
