Restaurant guests chased burglars away

-

BY ASHLEIGH RAINBIRD MASKED raiders tried to break into David and Victoria Bekcham’s £6million Cotswold home. Police were called to the six-bedroom house in Great Tew, Oxfordshire, last Friday after the couple’s 24-hour security team raised an alarm. The Beckham family are understood to have been on their way to Australia when the attempted break-in took place. Victoria was pictured looking distressed as the family arrived in Sydney ahead of the Invictus Games. The trio used a ladder to peer into the upstairs window of the family’s weekend and holiday home.

Guests dining at a nearby restaurant intervened to chase the burglars away.

The couple are said to be “absolutely devastated” by the “frightening” attempt – and David is “furious” that his family’s safety could have been at risk.

A spokesman for the Beckhams declined to comment but David is understood to be increasing security measures at the couple’s residences in response to the incident.

The family now have guard dogs, motion sensor alarms and security guards perform regular patrols of the property.

The Beckhams’ Grade II listed home has undergone extensive refurbishments.

Thames Valley Police were unavailable to comment last night.
