We’re still in the dark over Brexit
THERESA May travelled to Brussels to meet EU leaders who hoped to see an end to the Brexit deadlock.
However, no one was any the wiser about her Government’s plans for dealing with some of the key sticking points.
The summit was an opportunity for the Prime Minister to bring forward meaningful and genuine proposals following the humiliating meeting in Salzburg earlier this month.
Instead, more than two years on from the Brexit referendum, the EU, the devolved governments, opposition parties and businesses are still in the dark over what the UK Government’s strategy is to avoid a disastrous hard Brexit which will hit the economy, jobs and living standards.
The reality is that there is no good Brexit. But what the Prime Minister can do is accept the compromise position set out by the SNP Scottish Government and commit to staying in the single market and customs union.
That is the only common sense and rational way forward.
