Crichton is the hero as City close in

-

GLASGOW CITY are all but SWPL champions for the 12th time in a row after a goal from Leanne Crichton saw off Hibs at Petershill Park.

Just seven days on from losing the Scottish Cup semi-final to Hibs, City roared back to win the topof-the-table clash.

Kirsty Howat gave them a dream start in six minutes. Then Hibs – who went into the game level on points with City – equalised through Siobhan Hunter.

But Crichton clinched it for City within seconds.

Scott Booth’s side now need just one point on the last day of the season against Spartans to win the league. Even a defeat could be enough should Hibs fail to beat Rangers by at least three goals.

Both sides went into the game with 100 per cent records outwith their league fixtures, with two draws between them.

Howat stabbed City ahead after neat play on the wing from Hayley Lauder as City were the better team in a frantic opening 45 minutes. Jamie- GLASGOW CITY ..2 HIBS .................... 1 BY ANDREW SOUTHWICK Lee Napier shot wide of both posts though for Hibs and lobbed over.

Abi Harrison was inches away from connecting with a through ball, then sent a cross of her own into the box that was begging to be finished.

Howat nearly grabbed a second when she turned and shot wide while Lauder forced a save with a left-foot shot.

Hibs upped the tempo and Rachel McLauchlan tested City keeper Lee Alexander from distance before Hunter headed over from inside the box.

Hunter made no mistake though when she knocked home a corner to level.

But within 60 seconds poor defending allowed Crichton to take her time to poke the ball past Jenna Fife from close range.

Napier had a goal chalked off for a foul in the build-up and McGregor forced a low save from Alexander late on.
