Muir bears up well after break gives star few sleepless nights

“I don’t know if I’d outrun him – I was having to run to keep up with him walking! He was pretty quick.

“It was the first time in the best part of seven years I had been able to have a break.

“The first few days when I came back, I couldn’t really sleep because I just wasn’t used to feeling that energised. I’m used to being shattered and crashing out.

“I’m not used to being that well recovered and rested. It’s nice to have that time to look after myself a bit more, which is so important when you’re an athlete. We came back and were ready to start back.”

From Canada’s grizzly bears to Glasgow’s Scottie dog, Muir was at Crookston Castle Primary School yesterday to reveal the mascot for March’s indoor championsh­ips.

She heads to Glasgow in top form after European gold in Berlin in August paved the way for being crowned Diamond League 1500m champion in Brussels and world No.1.

She said: “I was really proud of myself and to finish it off like I did I was really happy.

“It is exciting to have that world No.1 status when you’re going into a world champs’ year and Olympics after that.

“It is kind of strange to be world No.1. I did screenshot it when I saw it.”

Muir was speaking after revealing Crookston Castle Primary School school pupil, Rachael Joss, the winner of the Glasgow 2019 mascot design for Scottee the Scottie dog.
