Euro chiefs sorry over strip clash
EUROPEAN rugby chiefs have said sorry to Glasgow, Cardiff and their fans over their major kit cock-up.
The Champions Cup clash at the Arms Park descended into farce on Sunday when both sides played in predominantly light-blue strips – patterns that had been given the go-ahead in advance by tournament organisers.
An EPCR spokesman said: “We have procedures in place for ensuring that playing kits are distinctive, however, these procedures were not sufficiently followed through for this match.”
Meanwhile, Richard Cockerill fears Edinburgh could become victims of their own success in their bid for Pro14 glory.
The boss admitted he will be sending a patchwork line-up into battle with Zebre in Italy this weekend.
“Seventeen of my players are on Scotland duty and I won’t know until later in the week if any of them will be released back to us,” Cockerill said. “Clearly we are becoming victims our own success.”
BASKETBALL: Ali Fraser admits Glasgow Rocks are in the doldrums and in dire need of a pick-me-up.
The BBL outfit have suffered one of the worst starts to the season in their 20-year history.
Fraser said: “We just have times when one bad play leads to another and there’s a domino effect where we make mistakes.”
BOXING: Kristen Fraser feels her shot at Scottish boxing history is just the start.
She will face Malawi’s Ellen Simwaka for the Commonwealth bantamweight title in Aberdeen on November 24.
Fraser, 30, said: “Winning a major title has been the end goal for me since my amateur day. It’s also the beginning of the next stage of my career.”
