It’s amazing coming to work every day as part of a long line of head brewers, and that’s part of the museum work we are doing.

“I can trace the lineage of head brewers all the way back to 1556 – it’s a bit like being part of the brewing royal family in Scotland.

“We will hopefully help with the tourist industry in Glasgow and be part of that, and the resources we have are incredible.

“We’ve have had tours going for a few years now, but the new centre is state of the art.

“Tennent’s is not just synonymous with Glasgow, but is popular all around the world.

“We are now inviting people into our home to see what happens in a brewery that has produced beer for hundreds of years.” Tennent’s brand director Alan McGarrie said the new, seven-figure visitor centre, which opens on November 22, aims to capitalise on that history. He said: “We have a smaller scale version visitor centre in place at the moment but the idea for expansion came from chief executive Stephen Glancey who wanted to attract more people to Wellpark and the project has been in discussion for over two years. “The new centre will be four or five times bigger, and you tour the production line to see how the beer is made and bottled or canned, and features a variety of artefacts and areas of interests – the three pillars are the brewery, the beer and the brand. “We have the history of 1556 and St Mungo and beer being made in the shadow of Glasgow Cathedral and the water from Molendinar Burn and all the way through to Tennent’s Lager.” The new centre will feature time-lapse animation and displays of ad campaigns and 22 years of T in the Park and the Tennent’s Sixes indoor football tournament. There will also be bespoke bars and lots for visitors to see and do. Asked to pick the highlight, Alan said: “Getting the pint at the end of the tour.” For more information and to book tours, visit www. tennentstours. com
