WHERE: FINNISH LAPLAND YOU can hunt the Northern Lights by train with a visit to the Apukka Resort in northern Finland.

Pulled by a snowmobile, the train keeps guests cosy as it trundles through the wilderness in search of the magical Aurora Borealis.

After a stopoff for grilled sausage and hot drinks at traditional kota, and a chance to photograph the aurora, the first night is spent in an ice cabin wrapped in thermal sleeping bags before a switch to an Aurora wagon, dropped off in a remote location by the train driver.

Activities include a husky safari, reindeer ride and sunrise watch.
