LAST 32

-

ALL four teams can finish top or bottom of group G. Games still to play – November 29, Rangers v Villarreal, Spartak Moscow v Rapid Vienna. December 13, Rapid Vienna v Rangers, Villarreal v Spartak Moscow.

If Rangers win both games against Villarreal and Rapid ... they’ll qualify on 11 points.

If Rangers beat Villarreal it would leave them a simple task to qualify – beat Rapid. But if they defeat Villarreal then lose to Rapid, it would be down to the clash between the Austrians and Spartak.

A Rangers and Rapid double would put Gers top on eight, with Rapid second on seven, Villarreal on six and Spartak on five.

So a win for Rapid in the final game would put them through as group winners on 10. Rangers would hope Villarreal and Spartak draw, with a win for either side sending them through if Gers lose to Rapid.

Victories for Rangers and Spartak in the next set of games would put both teams on eight and end Rapid’s chances.

But if the Ibrox side slip up against the Austrians, they’d be hoping for a Spartak win or draw in the final game to qualify ahead of Villarreal in second place.

If Rangers draw with Villarreal and Spartak win ... it would put Rapid out and leave it difficult for Rangers.

They’d have six points with Spartak on eight and, with a better head-to-head record, the Russians would only need a point at Villarreal.

If Rapid beat Spartak and Rangers draw with Villarreal ... Gers will trail the Spanish and Austrian sides. A win over Rapid would put them through but a draw or defeat would put them out.

If Rangers lose to Villarreal ... it wouldn’t end Rangers’ chances providing Rapid take something from Spartak. A Villarreal win effectively guarantees them the last 32 and if Spartak beat Rapid they’d go three points ahead of Rangers on a better head-to-head.

If Rapid win, Rangers must win in Vienna and hope Villarreal defeat or draw with Spartak. Villarreal would go through on 12 points, with Rangers second on eight.

If Rapid and Spartak draw, Rangers would need to win and hope Villarreal take something off the Russians.
