Boy’s sister, 8, fights for life

-

A DAD has been arrested over the death of his son and serious injuries to his daughter in an early morning attack.

Floral tributes were laid at the scene in Coupar Angus, Perthshire, yesterday for the 10-year-old boy, who has been named locally only as Kane.

His eight-year-old sister is fighting for her life in hospital.

Police said last night that a 37-year-old man had been arrested in connection with the incident at a house in the town’s Union Street. It’s understood armed police were called to the scene at 2.30am by a member of the public.

A businessman said the man had jumped from a second-floor window at the property where the children were discovered.

He was found injured nearby before police burst into the house and found the boy dead and the girl seriously injured.

She was rushed to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee in a critical condition with “life-threatening injuries”.

Floral tributes to the boy were laid at a police cordon as local MSP John Swinney told of his shock at the tragedy.

Swinney said: “My heart goes out to the children and their family and friends.”

A bunch of roses and lilies were laid with a handwritten BY JAMIE BEATSON reporters@dailyrecord.co.uk note that read: “To Kane. I will remember you and I miss you.”

Murray McGregor, whose business premises are behind the house where the boy’s body was found, tweeted that his staff had been “alarmed” by the “major incident” when they turned up for work yesterday.

He wrote: “Sometimes things happen that give you a real shake.”

The top floor window of the home at the centre of the probe lay open as forensic officers carried out an examination.

One resident said: “People were taken out of houses nearby as it all happened.

“It is a total shock – this is a small town, more like a village, and it’s a tight-knit community.”

Another man, who did not want to be named, added: “I’ve seen the man about with two kids. It’s horrible to think about.”

Chief Inspector Ian Scott said: “Our thoughts are very much with the family and friends of the young boy who has died in this incident and with the young girl.

“Inquiries are ongoing, however, I believe this to have been an isolated incident.

“If anyone heard or saw anything in Union Street, who hasn’t already spoken to officers, I’d ask they call 101.”
