Run riot on Remembrance Sunday and give Robinson a day to forget

eye in the middle of the park, stayed in the game though and McHugh saw a strike from distance fly a few feet wide in the 18th minute.

The uncertainty in the KaticWorral partnership offered them more encouragement and in the 24th minute they levelled with a goal of stunning simplicity.

Ryan Bowman skipped past Katic too easily for Gerrard’s liking and when his low cross arrived on the six-yard line Curtis Main had the easiest finish of his life.

These two teams don’t usually need an invitation to be feisty and the equaliser cranked the aggression up a notch.

McHugh was booked for taking out Morelos and when he bodychecked the same player a minute later he was treading a fine line. His manager was raging at the booking though and became embroiled in a finger-pointing row with Rangers No.2 Gary McAllister.

Three minutes later Robinson reacted furiously when McHugh charged down with his arm a Halliday right-foot shot and ref Craig Thomson pointed to the spot and sent off the Irishman.

The Well boss got involved in more verbals with McAllister and Rangers coach Tom Culshaw and before the penalty could be taken Robinson was sent to the stand.

Tavernier took the penalty, scored and was ordered to retake it because there was still bedlam in the technical areas.

When the dust finally settled the Rangers captain stepped up and stroked the ball into the same bottom right-hand corner.

Gers immediately made their numerical superiority count further by moving 3-1 up in the 37th minute.

This time it was all too easy for Morelos who was given a free header from Middleton’s corner to nod home his 15th goal of the term.

Katic was replaced by Gareth McAuley at the break, while Bowman was sacrificed for Andy Rose for Motherwell.

Morelos lasted only six minutes of the second half. The Colombian had taken another knock but seemed okay as he went off to a huge ovation, replaced by Kyle Lafferty.

The Light Blues moved further ahead in the 58th minute with a flowing move that ended with Grezda drilling a low ball across goal for Middleton to bury emphatically from 16 yards.

The visitors just wanted out but there was more damage inflicted by Arfield on the hour as Tavernier and Jack combined before the midfielder added his second of the game with a cool left-footed finish.

Grezda was next to get into the scoring act, cutting in from the right and slamming a shot under Carson.

Youth team winger Serge Atakayi was given his competitive debut for the last 20 minutes and three minutes later Grezda was celebrating his second of the afternoon and Rangers’ seventh.

The winger rose unmarked to head home a Tavernier cross after a short corner with Halliday and at that stage Motherwell had to get a grip or they could have conceded double figures.

Atakayi limped off injured with eight minutes left, evening the teams up as Gerrard had used all his subs. But their work was done.
