YOU WILL NEED: Newspaper; brown paper; red and pink crepe paper; cotton wool; ping-pong ball; black sticky-back plastic, buttons or paint; pink paint; belts and buckles or black paper; brown material or paper bags; crackers; pencil; string; a drawing pin; sticky tape; glue.

WHAT TO DO: Paste four double sheets of newspaper in layers and finish off with a sheet of brown paper. For the big Santa, make another piece this size and sticky tape the two together.

Leave the paper until it dries hard. The body is a cone shape so you need to mark a curve. To make a compass, tie string to a pencil and drawing pin the other end to a corner of the paper. Move the pencil gently and cut along the mark.

Fold the paper into a cone and fix with glue. Snip the top off the cone, to slot the head in. Cover the body with red crepe paper. The join will be hidden by cotton wool trimming. Stick some around the neck and bottom of the red cloak. The arms are made from a tube of newspaper. Roll a double sheet up with a layer of red crepe paper. Twist some newspaper into a ball to make the hands, cover them with pink crepe paper and slip them into the arms with glue. Glue the arms into place by the collar.

Get a big ball of newspaper for the head and wind sticky tape around the neck. Cover the head with pink crepe paper. Paint a ping-pong ball pink and stick on as a nose and use buttons or paint for eyes.

Stick on cotton wool hair. His beard is a triangle of cotton wool under his nose, so no need for a mouth. His hat is a cone of red crepe paper trimmed with cotton wool. Make sacks from material or use strong paper bags.
