JUST TRUST US GAFFER

-

FROM BACK PAGE disgusted by his team’s lack of control in the 1-0 Dons defeat, could rely on his squad to self police and stamp out indiscipline.

The boss held a team meeting on Tuesday to lay down the law that red cards could ruin their title bid following Scott Arfield landing the club’s seventh dismissal of the season at Hearts last weekend.

A day later Morelos ignored the message and took the tally to eight by thrusting a hand into the face of Dons skipper Graeme Shinnie for a second bookable offence.

Kyle Lafferty came perilously close to making it nine when he clashed with Aberdeen defender Scott McKenna despite already being on a caution.

The gaffer couldn’t hide his frustration over the situation and McAuley said: “You have a responsibility to your team-mates to have some self control. If you’re in a situation when you’re on a yellow card, you need to make sure you stay on the pitch.

“It’s a good dressing room. It’s well policed around the training ground and in the dressing room. We have spoken about it even when the manager isn’t in the dressing room.

“It has been touched on but we need to nail that down because it could possibly cost us.

“Playing with 10 men that number of times can take its toll on the players, especially with the number of games some of the lads have played already.

“You lose important players for important games, you lose match winners for big games and that’s a frustration for all of us.

“The manager has put a marker down that we need to be better as a group.”
