PSG STAR’S MY CAV-A-GO HERO

- BY GAVIN BERRY

ODSONNE EDOUARD has revealed how Edinson Cavani groomed him for stardom after the South American superstar took him under his wing at PSG.

But Celtic’s £9million man insists Brendan Rodgers is now helping to take his game to a new level after the Hoops boss smashed the club’s transfer record to land him in the summer.

Edouard came through the ranks

at mega-bucks French Ligue 1 giants PSG where £55million Uruguyan strike star Cavani is one of their top names.

But he still took time out to nurture Edouard – unlike superstar Swede Zlatan Ibrahimovic who was unable to pass on words of wisdom because of the language barrier.

Edouard – who has hit 12 goals in 26 appearances in all competitions this term – admitted he has since modelled his game on Cavani.

The 20-year-old said: “When I was at PSG, Cavani gave me advice every day.

“This gave me a massive amount of belief in myself.

“I was also there with Ibrahimovic but he was different. I was a kid and that was it. He didn’t speak the same language as me.”

Edouard admitted a chat with Celtic boss Rodgers convinced him Parkhead was the place to be with his move made permanent this season following a successful loan stint last term.

He said: “It was stuffy at PSG. I needed to go on a new project.

“I chose Celtic because they are a big club who always play in Europe. I had a good chat with the manager. He told me about his ambitions and spoke about what he wanted to do with me. I appreciated that.

“I decided I would sign. Brendan Rodgers is a very good coach. From day one, he spoke to me a lot and he always encourages me. He is very experienced.

“He has made me a better player and I feel I am progressing very well.”
