Emotional appeal for ‘fun-loving’ Grace, 22

Daily Record - - NEWS -

THE dad of a British backpacker missing in New Zealand has made a tearful appeal for information after flying out to find her.

David Millane said his daughter Grace, 22, had “bombarded” her family with updates and pictures from her travels until the messages suddenly stopped last Saturday.

He said: “Grace has never been out of contact for this amount of time.”

Mr Millane, 60, landed in New Zealand yesterday after BY AMY-CLARE MARTIN travelling from the family home in Wickford, Essex.

At a press conference, he described his daughter as “lovely, outgoing, fun-loving, and family-orientated”.

He said: “She’s usually in daily contact with either her mother, myself, her two brothers or members of the family on social media.

“We are all extremely upset and it is very difficult at this time to fully describe the range of emotions we are all going through.” Grace, who is on a year-long around-the-world trip, arrived in New Zealand on November 20 from Peru.

Det Insp Scott Beard, of New Zealand Police, said officers had spoken to a male she was last seen with at Auckland’s CityLife hotel.

He said police “hold grave fears for her safety” but “have no evidence of foul play”.

A spokesman for the Foreign Office said: “We are providing consular support to the family in the UK, and working with the New Zealand Police.”
