12 shot dead in bank raids

AT LEAST 12 people have been killed in Brazil in two attempted bank robberies.

Military police in the north-east city of Milagres say the heists began at 2.30am yesterday.

The raiders at one bank had taken people hostage when police surrounded the area. A firefight broke out leaving several dead, including two children.
