The company yesterday offered customers a discount and an apology.

The compensation news – and the outage – met with a mixed response online.

wrote on our Facebook page: “Thank you for an amazing job O2. Some parents actually put their phones down and spent time with their kids.”

But said: “My phone just went back on at 11.30am. I have a child with complex health issues. Good job I didn’t need a doctor.”

added: “My

daughter was so upset as she couldn’t get hold of me and was stressed with it.”

Deborah Mcginty

wrote: “They had the cheek to email me yesterday to say my bill was going up.”

joked: “I want compo for having to listen to everyone going daft because of it. What did folk do when there weren’t any mobile phones?”
