Scott makes it a double but he’s thirsty for more

-

DUNCAN SCOTT landed a double on the opening night of the Scottish Championships but the swimming star insists he’s only getting warmed up.

The European gold medallist, 21, stormed to victory in the 100 metres butterfly before smashing the Scottish record in the 100m medley in Edinburgh.

He then helped Stirling University to 4x50 medley gold to cap off a manic week for the newly-crowned Sunday Mail Scottish Sports Personality of the Year, who’ll dash back to the pool after sitting an exam this morning.

But Duncan reckons he can’t award himself full marks in the pool until he hits his top form.

He said: “I’m not really happy with it all. Two years ago, I was faster in the butterfly but my preparation was a lot different.

“Then I was focusing on World Championships whereas last year it was Commonwealth Games and I had a sore shoulder so I didn’t do many short-course events.”

Ross Murdoch ripped the Scottish 50m breaststroke record to shreds twice in 10 hours with a 26.34-second effort in the final. Teen star Keanna MacInnes drove down the Scottish best in the 200m butterfly to 2:07.21.

While Jack Thorpe beat out Scott and Scott McLay to land 50m freestyle gold after lowering his own Scots record to 21.55 secs in the heats.

He said: “It might be the fastest we’ve ever had so it’s good to come out on top in that quality of field.”
