Pensioner dies after house blaze

A PENSIONER died yesterday after an early morning house fire.

Police and three fire engines raced to The Leys in Macduff,Aberdeenshire, at around 5am.

A 76-year-old man died at the scene.

Neighbouring homes were evacuated to escape the blaze.

Police say nobody else was injured and no other properties were damaged.

While an investigation is under way, police believe there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.

Detective Inspector Sam Buchan said: “Our thoughts are with the man’s family at this very sad time.”
