Pets’ anthem is the perfect festive No1
MUSIC experts crunched the numbers on Christmas songs and declared the Pet Shop Boys’ Always On My Mind as the perfect festive hit.
Reserchers at music label Ostereo looked at every Christmas No1 from the past 50 years to see what they have in common.
They found that for a song to hit top spot on Christmas Day, it needs to BY ALASTAIR REID last three minutes and 57 seconds, in the key of G major, played at 114 beats per minute and performed by a 27-year-old solo artist.
Always On My Mind hits the ideal length and key but is slightly faster. Mary’s Boy Child, by Boney M, was second in the study.
