ARGUABLY they launched Britpop by kickstarting the UK’s love affair with its own music again.

A 1992 Melody Maker cover called them “The best bew band in Britain”.

Overshadowed by Blur and Oasis and with singer Brett Anderson battling drug addiction, the band split in 2003.

They reformed in 2010, producing new material, and this year’s The Blue Hour album reached No5.

It was the group’s highest charting release since Head Music went to No1 in 1999.
