ASHE IS ON FIRE
Mighty Adam proved to be the real Lyon tamer for us says Horne
GEORGE HORNE was named Glasgow’s man of the match but he insisted the judges got it wrong.
Horne was adamant Adam Ashe was the man who mattered for the Warriors.
The pint-sized passer made life hell for Lyon but breakaway Ashe was the destroyer in chief as the Warriors took a giant stride towards the Heineken Cup quarter-finals.
Scrum-half Horne said: “Ashy has been on fire and he was fantastic out there.
“He’s an absolute workhorse and the sheer effort he put in was incredible.
“Most times he plays he comes out on top in the stats for tackles and carries.
“Our back row in general get through a power of work and they really fronted up and took the game to Lyon.
“In addition Ashy took his two tries well. He’s playing bloody brilliantly.”
Horne revealed Glasgow’s focus is now on the return tie with the French side at Scotstoun on Saturday.
He said: “We will concentrate purely on ourselves rather than them. We want to be as clinical as possible and pick up another five points.
“Getting to the knockout rounds was a massive goal at the start of the year and we have put ourselves in a good place to do that.”
Ashe’s powerhouse display was an endorsement of boss Dave Rennie’s judgment.
The coach had raised eyebrows by picking him in the side ahead of Scotland regular Ryan Wilson.
Rennie, who admitted Wilson was playing too well to drop” during the autumn Test period, said: “We’re delighted for him. He scored twice but it was all the other work he did that made such a difference. He was a big contributor.”
Rennie revealed he will tinker with his line-up for Saturday’s return showdown.
He added: “The pitch at Lyon was getting churned up at every scrum. We’re used to a firm surface at home so we’ve got some pretty tired legs, especially because the match was such a physical game.”
Ashe got Glasgow’s first and last tries, the others coming from Horne, Stuart Hogg and Huw Jones.
The rest of the Warriors’ points came from the boot of Adam Hastings.
