SAINTS SLIP WON’T SEE US FREEFALL

-

LEWIS FERGUSON has acknowledged Aberdeen must learn lessons from their St Johnstone stumble.

The midfielder knows Saints did a job on them and Livingston will be looking to do something similar at Pittodrie tomorrow evening.

Ferguson is well aware they have to recapture their spark and produce more creativity if they want to make the most of a frantic festive period.

He said: “We are so disappointed because we had come off the back of two great performances, although we never got the result against Celtic but on Wednesday at Ibrox we got a fantastic result.

“We came out high in confidence and it is so disappointing that we have come away with nothing.

“It will be a similar game but hopefully we can learn from what has just happened and we can take three points from that Livingston game.”

The youngster thinks that the exploits of taking on Celtic in the Betfred Cup final and the victory at Rangers took its toll on the Dons’ squad.

Ferguson said: “Both games took a lot out of us mentally and physically but that is no excuse because we should still be doing a job at Pittodrie in front of our own fans and getting the three points.

“We just lacked that wee bit of spark to get the goal. “I thought we had played well up to when they scored. It deflated us and we went flat from there. “The next game can’t come quick enough.” The teenager knows BY SCOTT BURNS Aberdeen need to find a way to get more goals.

He said: “You can say that but we have players, like Stevie May, James Wilson, Scott Wright, Niall McGinn and Gary Mackay-Steven, who was out and we missed him, who can go and give us that spark.

“We lacked creativity and St Johnstone put on a typical St Johnstone performance.

“It’s a striker’s job to get goals and that is what I want to do along with Graeme Shinnie and our wide players.

“We all want to get goals but today it wasn’t to be because we lacked that spark.”

Ferguson knows his team need to bounce back and with four more home games to come in December they must make progress at Pittodrie.

He said: “The gaffer said that before the game that we have a lot of home games this month.

“We have so many games in December and it’s time to start picking up points. We need to start moving up the table but we have so many more games and things can change over the next few weeks.”

Derek McInnes was disappointed fringe players like Wright and May never took their chance – as he freshened up his battle weary squad.

He said: “That’s understandable for a lot of them but I was looking for more from those who didn’t start those two games to give us a spark and help the team out.”
