-

A BUS hit a bridge and crashed on to its side in a Highland village last night, leaving seven people in hospital.

The casualties were transported to Inverness’s Raigmore Hospital after the coach overturned at Littlemill Bridge south-east of Munlochy, on the Black Isle, at about 5.40pm.

People with more minor BY SALLY HIND injuries were treated at the roadside but at least one person was understood to have been trapped in the wreckage before being freed by fire crews.

Stagecoach confirmed last night that the crash involved one of their vehicles.

A spokesman said: “Our first thoughts are for those affected and their families. Safety is our absolute priority and we are supporting the police and the emergency services in any way that we can, including helping establish the circumstances involved.”

A member of staff at the nearby Allangrane Arms said those affected were taken into the pub as they waited for help.

EMERGENCY crews were dealing with a serious road crash in last night which left a car overturned in a field. The vehicle had been carrying two people on the B9022 at Dykehead, near the A98 south of Portsoy in Aberdeenshire.

Police, fire and ambulance crews were at the scene at 9.30pm and the road was closed in both directions due to the number of emergency service vehicles at the scene.
