Wright: I’ll return even stronger – I did it before

-

DREY WRIGHT hit the ground running after a summer switch to Scotland. But the highly-rated St Johnstone winger is sidelined for the rest of the campaign after cruciate ligament surger.

The 23-year-old already has his sights trained on next season.

But Wright knows he has a fight on his hands – as this is the second time he’s suffered that injury.

He said: “Knowing I’ve been through it before will help this time around. I was only 19, I’m more prepared for what’s to come.

“I know the season is over. If everything went perfectly you could maybe squeeze in a game or two but it wouldn’t be worth it.

“It’s better to take the extra time and come back for pre-season. I know that it will take time to get fit and then to get back GORDON BANNERMAN to the level of sharpness you need but I also know it will come.”

Wright limped out of November’s 0-0 draw with top-six rivals Kilmarnock and feared the worst.

He added: “I thought with the initial pain it was serious. By the time we got the scan results back I’d got my head around the fact it was a bad one.

“I was really pleased with how things were going and we were in a really good place as a team.

“The most disappointing thing is missing the rest of a season that could be a really good one for us.

“I came here to be a mainstay of the team and that was what I was doing. To have that taken away was disappointing but it happens.

“Everyone’s been brilliant – I can’t thank them enough.”
