GB flag and Wimbledon repeat top memories

-

BY NEIL McLEMAN ANDY MURRAY has revealed winning his second Wimbledon and carrying the flag for Team GB at the Olympics have been the highlights of his glittering career.

The Scot has won three Grand Slams, two Olympic gold medals, the Davis Cup and reached world No.1 for the first time when he won the ATP World Tour Finals at The O2.

He won a total of 45 ATP Tour titles.

Asked to name the biggest high of his career, the 31-year-old said: “It’s a difficult one. Two things which stand out to me were the second Wimbledon and carrying the flag at the Olympics.

“That was an off-court thing. There are not loads of things off the court that relate to my tennis.

“They don’t for me come anywhere close to that. They would be the two things which tennis has given me that I would say are the high points.”

Murray got drunk celebrating his second Wimbledon title in 2016 after admitting he had not allowed himself to enjoy his first win in 2013.

And the Scot, who backed independence in 2014, carried the Union Jack at the opening ceremony in Rio the following month before retaining his Olympic title.

Murray went on an incredible winning run at the end of 2016 to reach world No.1 by beating Novak Djokovic in London before his troubles started in 2017.
