Log burner and open fire fuels face ban
THE most polluting log burner and open fire fuels will be banned as part of a plan to reduce emissions.
Environment Secretary Michael Gove called for action on emissions as he set out plans to reduce exposure to particulate matter – thought to be the most damaging pollutant.
Ministers predict the measures will cut the cost of air pollution by £1.7billion over the next year, rising to £5.3billion every year by 2030 – owing to savings from public health benefits.
The UK is the first major economy to adopt goals recommended by the World Health Organisation.
