THE news that Rangers hero Fernando Ricksen will spend the rest of his life in St Andrew’s Hospice in Airdrie united football fans in support online.

The 42-year-old, who has been battling motor neurone disease since 2013, revealed he will never be well enough to fly back to his home in Spain where his wife and daughter live.

Football fans took to the Daily Record’s Facebook page to post their messages of support.

Kate Gilchrist said: “My friend was diagnosed with MND and met Fernando at a charity event before she died. He made her feel so at ease. “My thoughts are with Fernando and his family for highlighti­ng it firstly, and for being brave enough to share.” Fraser Rigley said: “I recently lost a dear friend who was a resident at the hospice.
