Ando: Jags are still cup for survival

-

STEVEN ANDERSON insists no one at Partick Thistle will be taking their eye off the ball as they battle to get off the foot of the Championship.

That’s despite the Jags reaching the quarter-finals of the Scottish Cup with Anderson the goal hero on Saturday as his second-half header sunk East Fife.

But while Partick were celebrating they learned that Falkirk’s league victory over Alloa had knocked them to the foot of the division.

That was out of Thistle’s hands but the side have been improving in the league, winning their previous two games and drawing a couple before that.

Anderson, on loan from Premiership St Johnstone, says he knows where the priority lies in the coming weeks.

He said: “It’s nice to get a wee cup run and something different. In the league it’s about getting as many points as we can to stay up but looking further on as well.

“It’s not just about staying up, it’s about looking at how far we can go up the league.

“Going bottom didn’t kill the day. We’ve got a game in hand and we’ve got Alloa next week and hopefully we can beat them.

“We’re in a dogfight. I knew that when I came here and I’m hoping I can help Partick Thistle get out of it.

“When you win games your confidence is high. It’s when you’re not winning games that you need to battle and I think we’ve got that just now, battlers, and it’s given us the confidence of winning games.”

Thistle boss Gary Caldwell hailed his loan signing after the Bayview win saying his younger players should enjoy his presence in the squad while he’s there.

Caldwell said: “A lot of young centre-halves should look at him and learn from him and how he plays the game.

“He’s been fantastic since he came into the club at both ends of the pitch.”
